TIPS FOR A HEALTHY NIL BY LYNDA URUAKA
To my understanding, our nail portrays our personality and mirrors our health. As a result of time crunch we tend to neglect it even it cries for its deserved attention. Though small in appearance but it has a stand-out charm. The question before you now is, What personality statement is my nail making? How healthy and well groomed are they? Look down at your nails, make a self assessment and answer (I am waiting to see the comments rolling in).
Jokes apart, most people are either unaware of or take lightly the fungal infections which exhibits itself as crumbling edges, discolourations, gap between the nail bed and the nail and many others. For the purpose of this post, I conducted a survey on nail inflammation and what prompted me to venture into this in the first place was the unpleasant sight of an infected nail I saw. From the illustrated result; Nail inflammation abound and it is not gender specific. Another point is that people are not nail hygiene conscious, So we can actually observe that there is a relationship between nail infection and low nail hygiene level.
NAIL CARE HANDY HINTS
Based on feedback from respondents and my effective nail care routine, I suggest the following:
(a)Nail cutter and file should be constantly cleaned to avoid nail fungal growth and bacterial infections.
(b) Clean with nail polish remover .
(c)Regularly trim and file the nails. Always have your nail file handy to smooth away surfacing rough edges on the nail.
(d)Apply moisturisers to keep your nails and cuticles hydrated.
(e)For extra shine and if you consider your nail plate weak or sensitive, use nail polish or straightener.
(f)for the ladies, avoid the use of acrylics and gel manicures as much as you can (though they seem convenient), as they can damage the skin below and around the nail area.
follow some or all of these steps and you will see your nail looking naturally appealing like the one below or even better.
